Warriors Reportedly Adding Backcourt Depth By Signing Veteran Scorer Leandro Barbosa
OAKLAND (CBS SF) - The Golden State Warriors have reportedly found a veteran backup for guards Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson by adding former Phoenix Sun Leandro Barbosa on a one year deal.
Barbosa, who's become a journeyman after seeing his best NBA success nearly a decade ago, will reportedly join Golden state at the minimum salary for a veteran, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. The Brazilian National Team member averaged 7.5 points per game last year with the Suns, roughly half of what he was averaging between 2005 and 2009, when he was an instrumental part of the Phoenix offense.
Backcourt depth has been a concern for the Warriors. The so-called "Splash Brothers" log heavy minutes, but the team now has three veteran bench backups to take some of the burden off of Curry and Thompson. Shaun Livingston and brought back Brandon Rush earlier this offseason.
