Walnut Creek Police Officer Hit By Car While Directing Traffic

WALNUT CREEK (CBS SF) -- A passing driver struck and injured a Walnut Creek police officer directing traffic at the scene of a vehicle accident Thursday afternoon, according to police.

The officer was directing traffic on Buena Vista Avenue near San Luis Road around 4:40 p.m. when the collision occurred, police said.

The officer was thrown on to the hood of the vehicle and then into the roadway by the impact.

The officer was taken to John Muir Medical Center with injuries that were not though to be life threatening.

The motorist told investigators that he didn't see the officer when he drove past the accident scene, police said.
