Walmart Workers Strike On Black Friday Across Bay Area, Nationwide

MILPITAS (CBS SF) -- Walmart employees, in the Bay Area and across the nation, are on strike this Black Friday in what may be the largest Black Friday strike ever. They are calling on the retail giant to raise pay to a minimum of $15 an hour and provide consistent full-time work.

Some 400 workers are expected to join a picket line at the Walmart store, in Milpitas. Some 1600 strikes and protests are planned at other stores nationwide, as well.

At the Richmond Walmart Store , striking employees will be joined by activists who want to call attention to the company's environmental track record. The Movement Generation Justice and Ecology Project called Walmart a "climate criminal" and vowed to "stand side-by-side with Walmart workers organizing for $15/hour, full-time work, and the respect they deserve."

According to a media spokesperson, picketers will not prevent shoppers from entering the stores.

The organizers' website http://blackfridayprotests.org/ instructs supporters to call their local Walmart and "tell the manager that you support the strikers."
