Viral Ad Campaign Redefining What Doing Something 'Like A Girl' Means
(CBS SF) -- A new campaign going viral is trying to redefine what doing something 'like a girl' means.
The confidence-inspiring campaign from Always questions when doing something 'like a girl' became an insult, eventually revealing it likely happens somewhere around puberty.
When we asked what it means to run like a girl, 9-year old Nina Berger answered that 'maybe it means that I'm not as fast."
For 8-year old Siena Mockler, "I think it means you run really slower. Your throws are bad."
Those responses were hard for parents to hear.
"To hear my own kids respond like that was shocking because I try my best to promote that we're girls and girl power, and we can do whatever we want," Siena's mother Vanessa Mockler said.
The video's director Lauren Greenfield has seen the impact the three little words can have on girls' confidence.
"In my work as a documentarian, I have witnessed the confidence crisis among girls and the negative impact of stereotypes first-hand," she wrote in the video's description.
The video has reached over 16-million views on YouTube.
