Twitter To Discontinue Vine Video App

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – Twitter announced that it will discontinue Vine, the mobile app where users can make short-form looping video clips.

"Since 2013, millions of people have turned to Vine to laugh at loops and see creativity unfold. Today, we are sharing the news that in the coming months we'll be discontinuing the mobile app," the company said Thursday.

Users who have posted the six-second clips will still be able to access and download them through the company's website.

Vine has not announced when changes would be made.

Despite early success, Vine has recently struggled, with many of its star video creators moving on to other platforms including Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram.

Following the announcement, Vine's founder Rus Yusupov expressed regret for selling the company to Twitter in 2012.

The Vine announcement comes on the same day Twitter announced nine percent of its global workforce will be laid off.
