Villa Romana Restaurant Closing After Nearly 60 Years

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - After nearly 60 years of serving up some of the best Italian food in San Francisco, Villa Romana in the Inner Sunset is closing its doors for good. As of Sunday, July 20th, Antonio and Giulia Accardo will stay open until they serve their last meal at the end of the day.

In 1955, the Accardos opened their Italian-American restaurant located on Irving Street between 8th and 9th Avenue. They serve classic Italian fare like pasta with homemade meatballs to their popular linguine with clams. Villa Romana also serves a variety of hand-tossed Neapolitan pizza.

Villa Romana joins classic restaurants like Joe's Cable Car, Fleur de Lys and Joe's of Westlake in shutting down their business. The Accardos are in their seventies and have decided to retire. Their children are unable to continue the business as they have their own careers outside the restaurant business.

It is unknown what will become of the space.
