Vigil For UC Santa Cruz Student Swept To Sea

SANTA CRUZ (CBS SF) -- A prayer service was organized for one of the two Santa Cruz students who went missing after a big wave swept the pair out to sea.

The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended the search for 19-year old Shireen Ahsan, and Solaiman Nourzaie, 25 who went missing while hiking at Bonny Doon Beach, near Santa Cruz.

San Jose authorities say the college students were hiking on a rock jutting into the ocean when the giant wave struck on Monday.

A third student was also swept off the rock, but made it back to shore.

The Coast Guard search covered 46 square miles before it was suspended Tuesday.

The vigil is Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Bonny Doon Beach.
