Video Surfaces Of Moments Before Asiana Crash Victim Was Run Over By Fire Truck

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— The driver of the first of two San Francisco Fire Department rigs that ran over an Asiana plane crash survivor, was alerted to the girl's location on the ground, according to new video obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle.

The video shows a firefighter pointing out the location of 16-year-old Ye Meng Yuan's body, 15 minutes before she was run over. The footage is from the dashboard camera and shows the rig stopping several times to allow survivors to escape before rolling up to the burning plane and applying the flame retardant foam, which eventually obscured her from view.

The coroner had determined that the Chinese student was still alive after the July 6th crash, but died after being run over by two fire rigs. Chief Joanne Hayes-White told KCBS, it remains a tragic accident.

"[In] a mass-casualty incident you take a look and you do the most good for the most amounts of people that you can, so visualization was made. It appeared that the person was lifeless in the airfield. There were reports of passengers that remained on the burning plane and so the forward troops or crews went on to the airplane and then rescued the remaining passengers on the plane," she said.

The girl's parents have filed a claim against the city saying firefighters deliberately left the girl in harm's way. According to the Chronicle, the new footage does not show firefighters trying to move the girl or mark her body with a casualty flag.
