Video Shows Cardinals Fan Swimming Off Jack London Square In Oakland To Save Giants Fan's Ticket

OAKLAND (KPIX 5) -- In an act of sportsmanship, video on YouTube shows a Saint Louis Cardinals fan swimming into the water near Jack London Square in Oakland, in an attempt to save a Giants fan's ticket.

According to the video's poster, a Giants fan had her ticket to Thursday's Game 5 of the National League Championship Series end up in the water at the ferry terminal.

In the video, the Cardinals fan wearing a Mark McGwire jersey swam into the cold water of the Oakland Estuary to retrieve the ticket. The woman and a crowd waiting for the ferry yelled and cheered for the fan as he found the ticket, which were floating on the surface, and when he swam back.

The video showed the ticket was waterlogged; it is unclear if it was usable for the game. The identity of the swimming fan was not immediately known.

The Giants defeated the Cardinals 6-3 Thursday night, winning the National League Pennant and advancing to their third World Series in five seasons.
