Raw Video: Big rig joins illegal sideshow in Oakland

OAKLAND -- Oakland police are investigating a number of illegal sideshows that shut roads across the city overnight.

At one of the locations video provided to KPIX showed a big rig spinning doughnuts below an overpass at Maritime Street and Grand Avenue in west Oakland.

A big rig spins around an intersection at an Oakland sideshow.

At one point in the video, spectators rushed the truck and climbed onto the trailer/container as it circled the intersection.

Local and state governments are working on legislation that would allow police to arrest -- and for the courts to prosecute -- sideshow spectators in addition to the drivers.

Oakland police said officers were busy with sideshow throughout the city late Friday night into Saturday morning.

Officers responded to the area near Keller Avenue & Mountain Boulevard, shortly before 12:15 a.m., where 30-35 vehicles were reportedly engaging in illegal sideshow activity.

Just after 12:34 a.m., officers responded to the 3200 Grand Avenue where 10 vehicles were reportedly engaging in illegal sideshow activity.

Shortly after 1:15 a.m., officers responded to the area near Edes Avenue & Hegenberger Road where 30 vehicles were reportedly engaging in illegal sideshow activity.

There were no word on arrests or vehicles being seized.
