Victim Of Thursday Shooting In San Jose Dies; City's 11th Homicide Of 2016

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A 19-year-old man who was shot Thursday night in downtown San Jose died Saturday night from his injuries and officers are now investigating the shooting as a homicide, police said Sunday.

The victim, identified as San Jose resident Luis Ortega, was pronounced dead at 9:33 p.m. at a hospital, according to police.

The shooting was first reported Thursday at 11:04 p.m. in the 400 block of East Williams Street.

Upon arrival, officers found Ortega suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital with serious life-threatening injuries, police said.

A motive for the shooting remains under investigation and the unidentified suspect remains at large, according to police.

The fatal shooting marks the city's 11th homicide this year, police said.
