Veteran, Amputee On Nationwide Bike Ride Makes Bay Area Stop
SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) -- A Marine who lost both legs fighting in Afghanistan made a stop in the Bay Area on Tuesday, as part of a nationwide bike ride for charity.
Rob Jones arrived in San Francisco, after bicycling more than 4,000 miles with no knees, legs, or feet. The veteran began his journey in Maine last October, wanting to pay back the charities that helped him recover.
Since then, Jones has biked through 17 states and all kinds of weather. He is in the final stretch as he heads to his final stop at Camp Pendleton near San Diego.
"It's been long, a lot of it has been really tough but I wouldn't change it I'd keep it just as challenging as it was. I'm still glad I did it."
Jones hopes to raise $1 million during his bike ride. He expects to reach San Diego by mid-April.
