RICHMOND (BCN) -- A woman died Monday morning after being struck by a pickup truck near Richmond on an onramp to Interstate Highway 80, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The woman was walking on the El Portal Drive onramp to westbound I-80 around 3 a.m. Monday when she was struck by a Ford F150 pickup truck, a spokesperson for the CHP said.

The truck driver subsequently attempted to transport the woman to a hospital, but she ultimately died in his vehicle.

The driver then stopped near the intersection of Barrett Avenue and 12th Street in Richmond to contact law enforcement. The CHP responded to the scene after receiving a report at 3:21 a.m.

The coroner was called to the scene at 3:55 a.m., according to the CHP. The woman's name has not yet been released as the coroner's office attempts to contact her family.

A spokesperson for the CHP said the truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the collision.
