Highway 101 In San Carlos Reopens After RV Fire Shuts Down Traffic

REDWOOD CITY (CBS SF) -- An RV fire stopped all traffic on Highway 101 in San Carlos Thursday evening, according to fire officials.

Shortly before 7 p.m., two northbound lanes of Highway 101 reopened. All lanes in both direction reopened around 9 p.m.

The incident began just after 5 p.m. The Redwood City Fire Department Twitter account posted that units were on the scene of a fire on northbound 101 that closed all lanes.

Later posts on social media confirmed that the incident was a recreational vehicle on fire. Twitter user Andrew Toruba posted a brief clip that showed drivers standing outside of their vehicles on the freeway.

All northbound traffic was being diverted at Woodside. There was no word as to when the freeway would reopen.

Video from Chopper 5 showed fire units spraying water on the on the still smoldering vehicle at 5:26 p.m.
