Vegetation Fire Shuts Down Hwy 146, Prompts Evacuation of Pinnacles National Park In Monterey County

SOLEDAD (CBS SF) - Firefighters were battling a vegetation fire that has prompted the evacuation of Pinnacles National Park in Monterey County on Wednesday.

According to Cal Fire, the Pinnacles Fire was reported at 5:40 p.m. and was burning in the area of Highway 146 and Metz Road, west of the park and east of Soledad. By 7 p.m. the blaze had spread to 100 acres.

The park has been evacuated. Authorities are asking people to avoid the area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
