Vegetation Fire Burns In Martinez Homeless Encampment Near Highway 4

MARTINEZ (CBS SF) -- A vegetation fire burned in Martinez Friday afternoon near Highway 4 after starting in a homeless encampment, fire officials said.

The fire was burning in the vicinity of Vista Oaks Drive, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said. The location is near the Center Ave. exit off just north of Highway 4.

Con Fire said the fire was extinguished at approx 1/2 acre and crews were conducting extensive mop up operations.

The fire was contained within the homeless encampment where is started and no other structures were threatened, Con Fire said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
