Vegetation Fire Burning At Samuel P. Taylor State Park In Marin County
MARIN COUNTY (KCBS) — Firefighters are at the scene of a 10-to 15-acre vegetation fire at the Samuel P. Taylor State Park in west Marin County, near Lagunitas, on Thursday morning.
The fire in the Madrone picnic area was reported at 4:40 a.m.
Marin County Fire Battalion Chief Mike Giannini told KCBS no injuries have been reported, no structures are threatened and no evacuations have been ordered. He called the fire problematic but said it was not out of control.
"It's mostly grass and brush; as far as understory, there's certainly a lot of trees in the area," he said.
"We don't have trees on fire per say but an awful lot of smoke and certainly the understory is burning."
The park has been closed, as are the trails, as a precaution. Campers, however, are being allowed to stay.
Firefighters from the Ross Valley and Southern Marin fire departments and Cal Fire also responded to the blaze.
Giannini said there is a plan to bring in Cal Fire aircraft to see if they can assist but that the morning marine layer has prevented that at this point.
The Novato Fire Protection District is staffing the Marin County Fire Department's stations during the response to the fire.
