Update: 1 dead in multi-vehicle crash on Vasco Road near Byron

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY – At least one person has died and several people were injured following a multi-vehicle crash on Vasco Road in eastern Contra Costa County Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m., Contra Costa County Fire Protection District tweeted that they were responding to the area of Vasco Road and Camino Diablo, south of Brentwood and near Byron.

In an update posted around 4:15 p.m., firefighters said two pickup trucks and a service van were involved.

According to firefighters, one person was killed and three people were injured. Two of the victims were transported to hospitals via air, while the third victim was transported by ground.

The crash has closed Vasco Road, a vital link between eastern Contra Costa County and Livermore in both directions. Firefighters said that the road was being cleared and is expected to reopen soon.
