Vandals Rip Arm Off Statue Of Weeping Angel Of Grief At Stanford

STANFORD (CBS SF) -- Vandals ripped off the arm of a century-old marble statue at Stanford University.

The Carrara marble arm of the weeping Angel of Grief was discovered missing on August 11.

University founder Jane Stanford erected the statue in 1901, in memory of her brother.

Someone stole the angel's left hand after it fell off during the 1906 earthquake. Then, the entire arm was stolen in the 1990s.

Police said it's worth $20,000.

A Palo Alto-based sculptor, Oleg Lobykin has been commissioned to fix the angel's arm.
