Vandalism Floods Ballfield At College Of Alameda; Thousands Of Gallons Of Water Wasted
ALAMEDA (KPIX) -- Vandals cranked open a main water valve and knocked over sprinkler heads on a baseball field at the College of Alameda sometime over the weekend, resulting in about 100,000 gallons of water wasted during the state's worst drought in decades.
The field was flooded. The culprits also poured chalk all over the field, ripped banners to shreds and damaged the pitcher's mound.
All told, there was about $10,000 in damage and the Alameda Babe Ruth Baseball League will be on the hook for the water bill, which could add up to $500.
Monday night, Alameda police were looking at surveillance video they hope may give them clues about what happend.
