Vallejo Teen Charged With Murder In Fatal Head-On Crash

VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- A 19-year-old Vallejo man has been charged with murder for allegedly causing the death of a 32-year-old man in San Leandro last month by driving recklessly and with conscious disregard for human life.

Jesus Godinez is scheduled to be arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court in Hayward on Thursday in connection with the crash on East 14th Street near Davis Street at about 10:45 p.m. on March 22 that claimed the life of San Leandro resident Alejandro Ramirez.

San Leandro police said Godinez was speeding when he crossed over the center line into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a vehicle being driven by Ramirez.

A 56-year-old passenger in Ramirez's vehicle suffered major injuries in the collision and had to be hospitalized but survived. Godinez also was injured in the crash and had to be hospitalized.

San Leandro police said Godinez was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

In addition to murder, the Alameda County District Attorney's Office charged Godinez with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated for Ramirez's death.
