Vallejo Standoff Ends After Man Shoots Gun Into Air, Barricades Himself Inside Home

VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- A Vallejo man was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly shooting a gun into the air and barricading himself in his home in an hours-long standoff with police.

The standoff stemmed from reports of a man shooting a gun outside of a house in the 1000 block of Maple Avenue around 3 a.m., police Lt. Kenny Park said.

Officers arrived on the scene a short time later but the man had already gone back inside his house and refused to answer the door, Park said.

The suspect ignored officers' numerous attempts to contact him and a SWAT team was called in.

The man surrendered about four hours later after the SWAT team deployed tear gas inside his home, Park said.

The suspect was identified as 28-year-old Marvin Arriaza and arrested on suspicion of recklessly discharging a firearm in public, the lieutenant said.

A woman inside the home was uninjured and was not suspected of any wrongdoing, Park said.

No injuries were reported in connection with the gunfire.
