Vallejo Police Think Driver Had Medical Emergency Before Fatal Crash

VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- Police believe a 61-year-old man who died after crashing into a parked car Saturday night in Vallejo may have had a medical emergency prior to the crash.

At 9:56 p.m. officers received a report of a crash in the 300 block of Illinois Street, according to police.

Upon arrival, officers located a Dodge Caravan that had crashed into a parked car. Inside, officers found an unresponsive man behind the wheel, police said.

Emergency personnel responded and transported the victim to a hospital, where he died, according to police.

After conducting a preliminary investigation, officers concluded the victim, a Vallejo resident, was driving westbound on Illinois Street when he apparently had a medical emergency, causing the vehicle to crash. The crash occurred at a low speed and both cars sustained minor damage, police said.

The victim's identity has not yet been released, pending notification of his next of kin.
