PG&E Crew Caps Gas Leak Near Morgan Hill Holiday Inn

MORGAN HILL (CBS SF) -- PG&E officials have capped a gas leak that forced the evacuation of a Morgan Hill hotel this afternoon, utility officials said.

The leak was first reported at 11:13 a.m. adjacent to the Holiday Inn Express & Suites at 17035 Condit Road.

About 100 people were evacuated or asked to shelter in place at the hotel and two neighboring businesses, Cal Fire Division Chief Jim Crawford said.

The Holiday Inn Express is downwind of the leak, Crawford said.

PG&E officials said a contractor ruptured a one-inch plastic gas line. The leak was capped at 12:23 p.m. with no injuries and no loss of gas service for residents in the area.

Crews remained in the area this afternoon repairing the ruptured pipe.

PG&E encourages people and workers to call 811 before digging to reduce the chance of rupturing a gas line.
