Utah Woman Says She Found Snake Head In Can Of Green Beans

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A food distribution company has halted shipments of canned green beans after a Utah woman says she found a snake head in a can.

KSL-TV in Salt Lake City reports that Troy Walker of Farmington, Utah, says she made the unsettling discovery while she and fellow church members were preparing meals Wednesday night for elderly neighbors.

Walker says she first thought it was a burnt bean until she spotted eyes that identified the snake head when the group was lifting beans out of a slow cooker.

The Deseret News also reported on the gruesome discovery.

"It looked pretty much like a burnt bean. And then as I got closer to lift it off the spoon, I saw eyes. … That's when I just dropped it and screamed," Walker the Utah newspaper.

Walker says she took the snake head and empty can back to the Harmons grocery store where she bought the food.

"My biggest concern [was] that someone else would get the body," Walker told the Deseret News.  She also said that the Harmons employees were apologetic and gave her a full refund on the 30 or so cans she had purchased.

Western Family chief financial officer Pete Craven says the food company takes reports of foreign matter in cans seriously and is researching what happened. Craven says wholesale shipment of green beans is on hold until their evaluation is complete.
