Unloaded Rifle Found At Oakland BART Station

OAKLAND (CBS) - An unloaded Winchester .22 rifle was found at an Oakland BART station on Thursday morning, according to BART officials.

BART spokesman Taylor Huckaby said the rifle was found under a bench on the platform at Oakland's MacArthur BART Station.

Shortly before 9 a.m. on Thursday, amidst the morning commute, a BART employee found an abandoned case containing the rifle, Huckaby said.

The rifle is being held by BART police and the rifle's owner has not yet been identified.

As of Friday, Huckaby said the rifle does not appear to have been involved in any crimes, but BART police are cross checking it against various databases and reviewing video surveillance of the platform.
