Couple Gives $185 Million To UCSF For Neuroscience Institute

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – A Sonoma County couple is about to make the biggest donation in University of California, San Francisco history.

Former Citigroup CEO Sandy Weill and his wife Joan are planning to donate $185 million for a new neuroscience institute at UCSF.

University officials say not only is this the largest donation the school has ever received, it's among the largest ever for brain research in the United States.

Construction is set to begin next year on a $316 million building to house the Weill Institute for Neurosciences.

The Weill's hope the institute will help improve the lives of people with Alzheimer's, autism and other brain ailments.
