UC Santa Cruz Professor Hit, Killed By Bus In Taiwan

SANTA CRUZ (KCBS) -- A UC Santa Cruz professor was killed earlier this month in Taiwan.

Professor Bruce Bridgeman was killed July 10th when he was struck by a bus in Taipei, according to a release from the university.

Bridgeman was a professor of psychology and psychobiology, and an internationally renowned researched on spatial orientation and neuroscience.

Bridgeman was traveling with his wife, Dr. Diane Bridgeman when the accident occurred.

The couple were on a speaking tour through Asia.

Bridgeman was scheduled to speak at the Medical University of Taiwan on the day he was struck.

Bridgeman started at UC Santa Cruz in 1973, and continued to teach classes at the campus even though he officially retired.

A memorial event celebrating Professor Bridgeman's life and career will be held in October.
