UC Berkeley Students Notified Of Data Breach Involving Social Security Numbers, Bank Accounts

BERKELEY (CBS SF) -- Students at UC Berkeley were being notified of a data breach that may have exposed social security numbers and other personal information Thursday, according to Cal Officials.

School officials sent out the notices Thursday about the data breach involving unauthorized access to a campus computer server used to store family financial information submitted by students.

The breach happened in March, and involved 260 undergraduates, and 290 parents and others.

The school is investigating the breach, and offering free credit monitoring for a year for anyone affected.

The school found two previous breaches involving the server dating back to December 2014.
