UC Berkeley Spends Over $1M Fixing Up Chancellor's Home

BERKELEY (KCBS) -- UC Berkeley has spent over a million dollars to fix up the official home of Chancellor Nicholas Dirks.

KCBS and Chronicle Insider Phil Matier says school records show $400,000 or so went toward room renovations, with the rest going towards the installation of a security fence after protesters sprayed the house with graffiti.

University officials say none of the money used to fix the house came from state funds or tuition money.

The work on the 105 year old University House began in July, 2013, just after Dirks was hired.

UC Berkeley
