UC Berkeley Police Receive Anonymous Letter About Alleged Sex Assault At Fraternity

BERKELEY (CBS SF) -- University of California at Berkeley police said Thursday that they've received an anonymous letter from a third party about an alleged sexual assault at a fraternity on Piedmont Avenue near campus last weekend.

UC police said the letter informed them that sometime last weekend the alleged victim attended a Halloween party at the fraternity, and the victim believes she was drugged and sexually assaulted by a fraternity member.

University police said they don't have any more information about the alleged crime at this time, and they've forwarded the anonymous letter to the Berkeley Police Department, which has jurisdiction over crimes that occur off campus.

BERKELEY (CBS SF) -- UC Berkeley police said last month that they have received reports of multiple sexual assaults involving fraternities.

Berkeley police spokeswoman Jennifer Coats said her department has received the letter but it hasn't received any reports about a sexual assault at a fraternity last weekend.

Coats said Berkeley police "are working closely" with UC Berkeley police regarding the series of alleged sexual assaults.

Coats said, "We would encourage anyone to contact the Berkeley Police Department if they have any information related to this incident or any other sexual assaults."
