UC Berkeley, Other College Computers Hacked To Print Out Anti-Semitic Flyers

BERKELEY (KCBS) -- An Arkansas man is taking credit for hacking into the printers at U-C Berkeley, Princeton and more than a dozen other colleges across the country, and installing code that caused them to print out anti-Semitic flyers.

Andrew Auernheimer, known in hacking circles as "Weev," is notorious online for his white supremacist views and, according to the Mercury News, once served prison time for stealing the personal information of more than 100,000 iPad users.

The 29-year-old says he took advantage of the so-called "Internet of Things," exploiting the printers' insecure Internet connections to install a malicious PostScript routine that caused the printers to pit out swastika-emblazoned flyers with anti-Jewish messages, and calls to click on a neo-Nazi website.

The flyers were printed out at numerous U.C. Berkeley departments, staff reported.
