Cal To Host Soccer Superpowers Real Madrid And Inter Milan At Memorial Stadium

BERKELEY (KPIX 5) -- UC Berkeley will host a match between two of the best known football teams on earth.

Officials announced Friday that European soccer heavyweights Inter Milan and Real Madrid will be facing off at the recently renovated Memorial Stadium on July 26th. Kickoff for the contest -- which will be broadcast internationally in more than 150 countries -- is set for 3 p.m. local time, according to the Cal Bears website.

The game is part of the Guinness International Champions Cup is a unique tournament featuring eight of the world's best and most recognizable soccer clubs: Real Madrid CF, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool FC, AS Roma, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Olympiacos. The Cal game will be the third game to kick off in the opening round.

The announcement comes on the heals of a 15 year, $18 million partnership Cal Athletics made with the mobile gaming company Kabam. Tickets to the game on Kabam field – starting at $45 - go on sale next week.
