Uber Charging Passengers If Driver Waits Over 2 Minutes
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – Uber is testing out new policies meant to encourage passengers to be more prompt when requesting rides.
According to CNN Money, Uber will begin charging passengers if a driver is waiting at the pickup location for more than two minutes in selected cities. Drivers will still have to wait five minutes before abandoning the fare.
"Uber works better when drivers are driving more and waiting less," the San Francisco-based company said in a statement.
Also, the company is reducing the grace period for users who need to cancel rides after they are paired with a driver. Passengers who cancel rides after two minutes will be charged a $5 to $10 fee.
The new policies are being tested in Dallas, New Jersey, New York and Phoenix. It is unclear if the shorter cancellation times and fees would be implemented in the Bay Area.
