Twitter Working Again After Nationwide Outage Impacts Users

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Twitter users across the U.S. reported an outage on the social media service that lasted for approximately two hours Thursday afternoon.

The Down Detector website reported a spike in users not having problems with Twitter shortly after 2 p.m. PT, with more than 33,000 reports as of 2:35 p.m. PT.

Users in Dallas, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, New York and the San Francisco Bay Area were among the metropolitan areas seeing problems.

Error messages when attempting to send tweets stated the service was "temporarily over capacity."

When contacted for comment a Twitter representative sent the following message:

"We know people are having trouble Tweeting and using Twitter. We have no evidence of a security breach or hack, and we're currently investigating internal causes. We're working to fix this issue as quickly as possible. We'll share more when we have it and Tweet from @TwitterSupport once we can – stay tuned."

Twitter appeared to be operating normally again by shortly after 4 p.m., roughly two hours after the issue started.
