TSA Offers Cash Rewards For Anyone With A Better Idea To Move Long Security Lines

(CBS SF) -- Airline passengers who dread the long security checkpoint lines at the airport now have an opportunity to do something about it, and win some cash while doing it.

The Transportation Security Administration is offering rewards totaling $15,000 to those who can devise a new system to screen travelers.

The idea is to build on the existing "PreCheck" program which allows travelers who have provided background information to bypass some security lines and protocols.

Participants have to provide their concept on moving the lines along and evidence it would work to the TSA.

There is one prize of at least $5,000 and others of at least $2,500. Submissions being accepted online and more than 200 ideas have already been submitted.

The contest ends August 15.
