Trio Of Masked Men Hold Family Hostage, Ransack Home Near San Rafael

SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) -- Marin County sheriff's deputies are seeking three masked men who entered a home just outside San Rafael early Tuesday morning, forcing family members from their bedrooms as the trio ransacked the home.

Around 12:25 a.m., sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a home invasion robbery at a home on Mt. Muir Court in unincorporated Marin County, according to sheriff's officials.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the victims who said a trio of masked men had entered their home through an unlocked sliding door, sheriff's officials said.

The suspects then ordered the victims from their bedrooms, limiting their movements, according to sheriff's officials.

One of the suspects was armed with a firearm, while another was armed with a baseball bat.

One of the residents was struck with the bat. The male victim however suffered minor injuries and did not need medical care, sheriff's officials said.

The suspects were able to flee with cash, electronics and jewelry.  It was not known whether they fled on foot or in a vehicle, according to sheriff's officials.

Deputies searched the area but were unable to locate the suspects, sheriff's officials said.

The sheriff's office is reminding residents to always make sure their windows, house and cars are locked and that valuables are kept out of plain view. Additionally, residents are encouraged to contact the sheriff's office if they notice suspicious people or vehicles in their neighborhood.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the sheriff's office at (415) 473-7265. Callers who wish to remain anonymous can call Bay Area Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
