Reports Of Smoke At Chicago Airport Causes Delays For SFO Flights
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Reports of smoke at a Federal Aviation Administration facility in Chicago was causing flight disruptions to travelers between San Francisco International Airport and that city's two airports Tuesday, an SFO spokesman said.
All flights were put on hold at Chicago O'Hare International Airport and Chicago Midway International Airport after the reports of smoke at about 9:30 a.m. PDT.
As of about 2 p.m., the airports were operating again but there are lingering delays and cancellations for travelers from the Bay Area to Chicago, SFO spokesman Doug Yakel said.
Yakel said that four flights from SFO to Chicago and eight arrivals from Chicago had been canceled. There have been six delayed departures to Chicago ranging from 90 minutes to two hours and eight delays for arrivals ranging from 60 minutes to two hours.
Yakel advised anyone traveling to or from Chicago today to check with their airline first.
