Water Taxi Looks To Offer San Francisco – Berkeley Commuter Service
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – A Bay Area water taxi business is looking to expand by offering commuters service from Berkeley to San Francisco.
The Tideline Marine Group is hoping to have the Berkeley-San Francisco service finalized by the California Public Utilities Commission shortly.
"What we're hoping is that there are many, many more landing sites," said Nathan Nayman, president of Tideline Marine Group. "Not only run by the Port of San Francisco, but by private landing sites, by housing developers and others, where we can actually take people to and from work."
Nayman envisions a private commuter service, the same way tech companies currently operate buses. Unlike ferries, water taxis are not subsidized, they are for profit businesses.
"The biggest difference is we can land in places that ferries cannot," Nayman told KCBS.
There are also smaller. Two ships carry 43 passengers, while a catamaran carries 22.
