Teenage Girl Gunned Down During Oakland Memorial Laid To Rest

OAKLAND (KPIX 5) -- A teenage girl gunned down in Oakland was laid to rest Thursday.

Reggina Jefferies of Antioch was shot in the neck and killed last week at a gathering downtown to remember two teens who had drowned.

She was 16 years old.

A horse-drawn carriage led a procession through the streets of east Oakland Thursday morning.

It carried Reggina's casket to Acts Full Gospel Church for a funeral.

Hundreds of people came to honor the high school student.

Police do not believe she was the intended target of the shooting on Franklin Street on June 14th.

Three other young people were wounded.

The killing angered many people, including Congresswoman Barbara Lee, who brought Reggina's picture to the House floor, and dedicated the marathon sit in to the high school student and other recent Oakland homicide victims.

Lee held up Reggina's picture, saying they need to tighten the nation's gun control laws.
