Teen Tased In The Head By Oakland Cop After Running From Brawl
OAKLAND (KPIX 5) -- A teenager was hospitalized after being tased by an Oakland police officer when a fight broke out at an East Bay bus stop.
It happened in Oakland near the Eastmont Town Center.
"Where is my son? Why is he in an ambulance? Why did he have to get tased?" parent Kenya Davis asked.
Those questions still haunt Davis more 24 hours after her 15-year-old son was tased and arrested by Oakland police.
Davis says she's only learned bits and pieces of what happened after a fight broke out between students outside the mall yesterday.
"Somehow, my son ended up involved in it and he ran, and they tased him in the back of the head," Davis said.
Davis says the prong from the taser was lodged in the back of her son's head, and had to be surgically removed at Highland Hospital Wednesday.
"I think that's so appalling. Why would you aim for a child? And they knew that they were kids—especially in the back of the head," Davis said.
Davis says her son is facing charges of evading arrest and assault on a police officer, but she believes the department overreacted, treating a bunch of kids like hardened criminals.
The Oakland Police Department said it would provide a statement but had not offered any comment as of 6:00 p.m. Wednesday.
