Tattooed Armed Robbery Suspect Nabbed In NorCal Town

PLEASANT HILL (CBS SF) -- A suspect with prominent facial tattoos wanted for a Pleasant Hill armed robbery has been taken into custody in the small Northern California town of Corning, authorities said Thursday.

According to Pleasant Hill Police, 22-year-old Hayward resident Charles Justus was arrested on Wednesday by agents working for the U.S. Marshals Service with assistance from deputies with the Tehama County Sherriff's Office.

Pleasant Hill Police tweeted about the arrest at about 1:41 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Justus was wanted in connection with an armed robbery reported at 1:47 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, at a Nordstrom Rack located at 703 Contra Costa Blvd. in Sun Valley Mall.

He allegedly used a firearm of some kind to rob the store of merchandise before he was involved in a pursuit with Pleasant Hill police officers onto highways and into neighboring cities.

The chase was terminated when the suspect drove into oncoming traffic, police said. It was later determined that there were three children and a woman in the vehicle during the pursuit, police said.

Investigative leads brought U.S. Marshals to a residence near Corning, a town 19 miles south of Red Bluff on Wednesday. At the home, Justus fled on foot from the agents and deputies.

US Marshals and Tehama County Deputies tracked Justus for two and half hours, covering around 5 miles. Justus was ultimately apprehended and found to be armed.

In a press release, the Pleasant Hill Police Department offered thanks to the US Marshals Service Northern California Fugitive Task Force, the California Department of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension Unit and the Tehama County Sherriff's Office for their assistance in this case.
