Tartine Bakery Joins Forces With Blue Bottle Coffee, Eyes Expanding To L.A., NYC

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – Two Bay Area businesses with major cult followings will join forces as Blue Bottle Coffee of Oakland and Tartine Bakery of San Francisco have announced a merger.

According to the New York Times, the artisanal bakery made the deal in order to expand their operations to Los Angeles, New York and Tokyo.

"I've been talking about the things that are about to happen now for years, but I was always looking for the right partner," bakery co-owner Chad Robertson told the Times.

Founded in Oakland, Blue Bottle now operates 18 shops. The coffee company raised nearly $20 million in 2012 and another 25 million last year.

Tartine will continue to be operated as a separate company.
