Suspicious Carport Fire In Mountain View Destroys Several Cars

MOUNTAIN VIEW (CBS SF) -- One person suffered minor injuries Saturday in a fire in the carport of a Mountain View apartment complex.

Firefighters responded around 4:40 p.m. to an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Latham Street on the report of a car fire.

Fire officials said they arrived at the scene to find multiple cars on fire with heavy flames and smoke coming from the carport.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading to the apartment building.

Fire officials said one person was transported to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation. Seven vehicles were completely destroyed in the fire, and five had mild to moderate damage.

One apartment unit had mild smoke damage, and a nearby car wash sustained damage.

No firefighters were injured in the incident.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
