Suspects Shoot At Undercover Oakland Police Officers; 3 In Custody

OAKLAND (CBS SF) – Oakland undercover police officers searching for a known gang member early Wednesday morning were shot at, prompting a large police response.

As undercover investigators were looking in the area of 55th and Bancroft, they had guns pointed at them in the neighborhood and that's when they called for backup. Three suspects in a BMW then took off.

"They eventually crashed, then fled the vehicle. We were able to arrest two immediately," said Oakland Police Lt. Steve Nowak. "We then set up a large perimeter to search for the third suspect and because of the violent nature of the call, we had to do a SWAT call out."

The third suspect was eventually found as police said he was trying to breach the perimeter.

Oakland police said no one was injured, although there were two separate homicides in East Oakland Tuesday night.
