Suspected Shoplifter Who Tased Fremont Security Guard Arrested

FREMONT (CBS SF) -- A suspected shoplifter who used a Taser stun gun on a Safeway security guard trying to stop him was arrested in Fremont on Saturday, police said Monday.

Safeway loss-prevention officers at the Fremont Hub Shopping Center at 39100 Argonaut Way stopped two juvenile suspects just before 3 p.m. Saturday, police said.

The two juveniles were suspected of stealing a large amount of merchandise, police said.

In an effort to escape, one of the two suspects used the Taser on one of the Safeway employees, police said.

The attempt was ineffective—both suspects were arrested when police arrived and the merchandise was recovered. Both were arrested on suspicion of robbery, police said.

One of the suspects also gave a false name to police officers, according to police.
