Suspect Pursuit Ends With Arrest Near Caldecott Tunnel

BERKELEY (CBS SF) -- An Antioch man was arrested following a pursuit with police that started in Lafayette and ended with a search in the hills surrounding state Highway 24.

Cothell Palmore, 22, was arrested on several crimes including felony evading, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, probation violation and on an outstanding warrant, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.

On Thursday at 6:13 a.m., an officer in Lafayette initiated a traffic stop on a Nissan on Mt. Diablo Boulevard.

The officers were aware the driver, identified as Palmore, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

Once Palmore became aware of the warrant, he drove away at a high rate of speed, striking one officer with his vehicle's door and almost striking another officer attempting to detain him, according to the sheriff's office.

The suspect led officers on a pursuit that went onto westbound state Highway 24, where the suspect got out of the vehicle and fled into surrounding hills.

Surrounding agencies responded to the incident, and Palmore was taken into custody about two hours later.
