Surprise 'Batkid' Appearance Cut From Oscars At Last Minute
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Batkid's starring role at the 86th annual Academy Awards was left on the cutting room floor during the award show Sunday.
The family of Miles Scott has said the 5-year-old leukemia survivor was scheduled for a sequel, making a surprise appearance with Spiderman star Andrew Garfield, but the scene was cut, according to the International Business Times.
There have been conflicting reports as to why the segment didn't make it into the show, but the boy's mother - Natalie Scott - says the family was left a little disappointed.
"It got pulled so quickly that we didn't have a lot of insight into what was going on," Natalie told the Business Times. "I know that's how TV goes and how Hollywood is. We're just not used to that; we're from a really small town."
Multiple media outlets reported that there was a bit of a Hollywood ending to the disappointment; Garfield apparently joined the Scott family for a day of fun at Disneyland on Monday.
It was the Make-A-Wish foundation that transformed Miles into the 'caped crusader' last November. Thousands watched as the boy dashed about The City in his Batmobile, fighting crime and winning hearts.
He quickly became a social media sensation,
Miles was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 20 months old and ended chemotherapy treatment last June. His mother says he is doing well.
