Surfer Separated From Board Rescued At Ocean Beach In San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Rescue crews helped bring a surfer out of the water Tuesday afternoon at San Francisco's Ocean Beach after he got separated from his surfboard.
At 2:52 p.m., fire crews, along with the National Park Service's beach rescue unit, responded to an area of Ocean Beach near Vicente Street and Great Highway, according to fire spokesman Jonathan Baxter.
A male surfer there had been separated from his board and got caught in a rip current, Baxter said.
The beach rescue unit was able to safely bring the victim out of the water. He was treated at the scene for injuries not considered life-threatening, according to Baxter.
The victim was taken to University of California at San Francisco Medical Center as a precaution, Baxter said.
The incident comes after a tragic case over the weekend in which two Vallejo teens were swept to sea and are presumed dead. Supervisor Eric Mar has called for a hearing to determine possible safety improvements at the beach following the deaths.
