Surfboard, Seal Chomped During Pair Of Monterey Bay Shark Sightings

SACRAMENTO (CBS SF) - State Parks officials are warning the public after shark sightings near Santa Cruz this weekend.

A surfer claims he was in the water off of Manresa State Beach around 6:45 Saturday evening when a Great White popped him into the air before chomping his board and pulling him under water briefly.

The shark, estimated at 15 feet long, apparently didn't like the sample and moved on. The man was uninjured, but his board is not longer usable, according to KSBW Salinas. Take a look:

On Sunday, a harbor seal was attacked by a shark at Seabright State Beach Sunday. About 4:45 p.m. a shark with a white neck was seen flipping the seal up into the air about 50 yards off shore. Officials say it is unclear if the seal survived, but blood was spotted in the water.

Officials say it is ultimately up to the swimmer if they want to enter the water or not but warnings will be posted for three days at beaches within a mile of the Seabright sighting. That beach sits directly north of the Santa Cruz Small Craft Harbor.

Anyone who sees a shark should notify the agency overseeing the beach or call 9-1-1 if there is an immediate threat.
